We have all been watching on television as the people of
Moore, Oklahoma have been struggling through the incredible tragedy that fell
on their homes, schools, and livelihoods this week. We, at The Academy, cannot stop thinking about the fine
people in Moore that we encountered two years ago as we were passing through on
our national tour. In 2011, The
Academy were guests of the band program at Southmoore High School, who was
generous enough to open their doors and allow us to sleep, eat, rehearse, and
prepare for our performance later that evening. It takes a special community to open their doors to
nearly 200 complete strangers and trust that they will take care of their
precious facility. Schools across
the country do this for drum corps every day, all summer long. Without them, this activity simply does
not survive.
We would like to return to Moore, Oklahoma some day and see
that city thriving and be greeted with the same incredible spirit of kindness
that was shared with us two years ago. We hope that you will join the effort to support the
rebuilding process for the city of Moore in whatever way you feel is
appropriate. This, in particular,
is how you can help to ensure that the bands in Moore, Oklahoma rebuild
stronger than ever, too....

We hope you are planning to attend our Memorial Day Preview Concert on Monday, May 27th in Tempe, AZ. This year, we are having some fun and inviting all former corps members to SHOW US YOUR CORPS JACKET and get into the event for FREE! That is right, anyone who is wearing a corps jacket from ANY CORPS (or carrying if it no longer fits like it did when you marched) will be allowed access to the event at no charge! Featuring The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps and The Academy Winter Youth Guard, this annual event is an opportunity for drum corps families to reunite, and hear The Academy debut their 2013 music from their production "Pianoman".
This year, we have partnered with Cane's Chicken Fingers, who will be catering the event. To be certain that we have enough of this highly popular food, you may want to be sure and pre-order your meal through this link here. The event runs from 4pm to 8pm at the Pera Club in Tempe.
