The Academy is pleased to introduce and welcome the 2017 colorguard staff. Serving as Caption Head is Gabe Escobedo approaching his seventh season with The Academy, and will be bringing a mix of familiar faces to The Academy instructional staff along with several new educators to the team. Staff members include:
Gabe Escobedo color guard career began in 1999, at Palmdale High School. After graduating in 2003, Gabe became an active member of Riverside Community Colleges Marching Arts Program. Performing with The RCC Marching Tigers in 2003-2004, and Independent World class winter guard, Fantasia, in 2005,206,2008, and 2011, where he he earned two WGI world championships titles, and served as captain in 2011. Gabe’s drum corps experience includes Yamato Drum and Bugle corps from Osaka, Japan in 2004, and Santa Clara Vanguard, 2006.
Gabe began his teaching career at a young age with his alma mater, Palmdale High School, 2003-211. Where He gained experience in instruction, choreography, and design, as well as various programs throughout Southern California, Arizona, and Utah such as Ayala High School, Fountain Valley High School, RCC Marching Tigers and Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps. Gabe currently teaches at Nogales High School and Rancho Cucamonga High School.
Gabe resides in Riverside, Ca with his partner of 5 years and is very excited to return for his 7th season with The Academy in 2017.
Chadd graduated from Las Vegas High School, where he then attended The University of Nevada Las Vegas. Chadd started his performance career with the Crossmen Drum Corps through a variety of roles from 2009-2012 and Fantasia Winterguard in 2013, 2014, and 2015 and 2017. Chadd’s teaching career started in 2011 with several bands and color guards in Nevada and Texas. Currently Chadd is the Colorguard Director at Mater Dei High School, and Westminster High School and also instructs Nogales High School. He has appeared in dance/colorguard roles on television shows such as “Glee”, “Parks & Recreation”, and several commercials. This year Mr. Hartman is with The Academy for his 3rd season and is very excited to see the program’s continued success.
Alyssa Lambert began her color guard career in high school, continuing her performance career as a member of the ASU Sun Devil Marching Band color guard and The Academy Winter Guard. She also performed with The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps from 2008-2012 and the Blue Devils in 2013. Alyssa has been an active color guard instructor at multiple schools in the Phoenix area since 2010. In 2014 Alyssa graduated from Arizona State University with her Masters in Accountancy, obtained her CPA license, and now works in public accounting as an auditor.
Jose Alejandro Pena – Born and raised in Palm Desert CA. After graduating from Palm Desert High School he continued his marching arts career with Fantasia Winterguard from 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2017, Imbue Winterguard 2016. Jose’s Drum Corps experience began in 2012 at the Blue Devils aging out in 2014. He is currently the Caption Head at Palm Desert Charter Middle School and Shadow Hills High School and a Technician at Palm Desert High School. This will be jose’s third season on staff with The Academy and can’t wait to see what the future holds!
Cory Robinson grew up in the City of Santa Fe Springs and graduated from Santa Fe Spring High School in the sunny state of California. He attended California State University Long Beach and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies with a Concentration in Mathematics with a minor in Dance. While attending college Cory marched in Corona World Guard under the direction of Michael Shapiro in the winter seasons of 2006, 2007, and 2008. He spent his 2006, 2007, and 2008 summers marching with The Concord Blue Devils “A” Guard and served as the 2008 Color Guard Captain. Cory has over 13 years of teaching experience and has worked with several High Schools in the Southern California region; he has also worked with the Blue Devils “A” Guard, and the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps Guard. Cory returns to the Academy Color Guard staff as a choreographer and is overjoyed to be apart of this year production.
Robert Rodriguez is entering his second summer with the Academy and comes to us from Moreno Valley, California. He is currently a student at Riverside City College where he majors in Mathematics and Actuarial Science. Along with his studies, Robert marches Fantasia Winterguard where he has spun for 5 years. He teaches various color guard programs around Southern California including Rancho Verde High School, where he serves as caption head; and Vista Murrieta High School, where he is a tech.
Whitney Semmens is thrilled to be returning to the Academy Drum and Bugle Corps staff for her fourth season. An Arizona native, Whitney was a member of the Arizona Academy of Performing Arts from 2001 to 2009. She performed as a member of the Academy Youth Guard, Academy Winter Guard, and The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps. In her final season she earned a gold medal and perfect score for an I&E Dance Ensemble piece. Whitney was able to work as a dance instructor for the city of Gilbert, as well as instruct Dance Academy for two years.
Whitney taught color guard in Arizona for ten years before relocating to Southern California, where she now works full time as a speech therapist and part time color guard instructor at Nogales High School. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends exploring new places in California.
Kris Galbreath will be joining The Academy Staff this summer,. Currently, he is studying marketing at the University of North Texas and will graduate with a Bachelor in Business Administration in May of 2017. He started his Drum Corp career in the summer of 2010, marching with the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corp. After graduating from Little Elm High School, he found a home with the Blue Devils during the summer of 2012 where he marched 4 years until his age out in 2015. He now teaches and choreographs for various high schools in the Dallas Fort Worth area including Wakeland High School, Coppell High School, and Allen High School. During the winter season, Kris serves as one of CGT Dallas independent World choreographers since 2015. Kris is very excited to be joining the The Academy Colorguard staff in 2017!
